Selfie Culture

In the harbour area of Kos City, a young lady walked back and forth. She walked through the area with the most homeless refugees. The whole time, she carried a phone on a selfie-stick, documenting herself eating an ice-cream.

The people behind the film-project Other Story, experienced this several times. Tourists taking selfies in front of groups of refugees, without communicating with the refugees, or relating to them in any manner. The tourist would just walk into an area, pose, take the selfie, and leave.

It was choking to witness, and indicates an extreme ability to distance oneself from other human-beings, and their situation. This is merely a reflection on what was experienced. We will not come with any deeper analysis. This is also a face to what is called ‘selfie culture’.
